Stoic Resilience
Trapped in an abusive marriage while trying to parent a son with cerebral palsy and young daughter, Barbara felt little hope of escape. In fact, there were numerous times when she felt that her only way to end the marriage was to end her life. She braved the abuse, however, for the love of her children. She felt it was her mission to protect them, and she did. But she still needed something of her own.
Writing became Barbara’s lifeline. Though she couldn’t escape the abuse, she could escape reality for moments at a time by pouring her heart onto the page. Writing gave Barbara a stoic resilience as she struggled to protect herself and her children from an unpredictable and violent madman.
Barbara's writings are unique in that they are being published sixteen years after her death. Her daughter edited and provides commentary so the reader can see inside the mind of an abused woman.
